Lute Family | Summer Woods Family Session

This summer woods family session was originally planned as an evening, sunset session. But a few days prior when we rolled up to this same spot the skies opened up and we suddenly found ourselves in a downpour complete with pounding hail! I remember driving home, watching their family driving in front of me and barely able to see the road! The highway had come to a complete stop, and people were pulling up underneath the underpasses and parking on the sidewalks. I was truly scared the windshield might shatter from the hail! It was a crazy 30 minutes of a summer storm that totally came out of the blue – the forecast was clear skies! So needless to say, we rescheduled their session and instead of doing a sunset session (which can be hard on little babes), Katy and Eric opted to do a morning session instead. We didn’t make it right at sunrise, so it meant we had the sun higher in the sky but I just love the way they turned out!

Dawson’s Butte has long been a favorite local spot of mine. I’ve photographed every time of day and every season and it never disappoints! I love when the scrub oak fills in in the Spring and the woods come alive with green colors and Spring flowers! And in the Fall the scrub oak turns such bright orange colors with the tall pines around and its another favorite season in this spot!

This is the third time I’ve had the privilege of capturing the beautiful Lute family! I got to connect with Katy first through the kindergarten graduation portraits I took last summer when our kindie graduates missed out on their own little ceremony. I love that our kiddos school has made it possible to meet so many amazing families and I love that I get to be a part of capturing their lives!

Between the beautiful greenery, colorful wild flowers, bright and sunny skies, and the CUTEST kiddos we had a wonderful time exploring and having fun together! Enjoy some of my favorites from their morning session here in Castle Rock!
