A Colorado Backyard Wedding
“You all are going to be tired of smiling by the end of the day, sorry guys!,” I remarked as we were working through their family formals. “I haven’t stopped smiling the last two months,” Joel responded. And I think he melted every heart there in that moment. These two were SO HAPPY to be getting married and their joy was so contagious. I loved the way that throughout the whole day Joel would continue to wrap Katie up in a big bear hug. These two make each other laugh non stop and their smiles never disappeared from their faces! What a joy to be there to capture it all!
When Katie and Joel reached out to me to ask about their wedding date, I knew right away when they said they were planning a backyard wedding it was going to be such a sweet, beautiful celebration with family. The intimacy of being surrounded with just family and your closest friends in such a meaningful place is so special! These two tied the knot in the backyard of Joel’s parents house up in Loveland, Colorado where he grew up. The backyard was filled with moments you could tell were from years past. A tree house with its ladder overgrown with ivy, a trampoline and little children’s collapsable slide tucked underneath, a picket fence and gate that you had to open just the right way to get in, and a tall tree with their initials lovingly carved into it to commemorate their love. These little moments in time shared their own story and witnessed the beginning of a new one there in that memory-filled backyard.
Joel and Katie met through their work over 6 years ago, but only officially started dating a couple years back. And when they were up in the mountains for a hike, Joel totally surprised Katie by proposing on their hike next to a mountain lake. And want to hear something amazing? That was on July 4th of THIS year! These two planned this beautiful backyard wedding in just a couple months! We took their engagement pictures in early August and those two months went by so fast!
I connected with Katie right away when she told me she is a mechanical engineer. My husband is also an engineer, and the school where we both met was filled with other engineers, as well! I’m so grateful for people like Katie and my hubby who are so talented in skills like engineering! So far over my head, but so impressive the things they can accomplish! And Joel knew that what he wanted in his future wife to be smarter than him! Smart, beautiful and talented!! Joel hit the jackpot!
I so loved getting to capture these two, meet their families, and share in their joyful new beginning as husband and wife! Joel and Katie, what a privilege to have been there to capture your special day! I hope and pray that the moments that you celebrated together on your wedding day are forever taken with you in these images and always remind you both of the beginning you two shared.
