As a Colorado family photographer, whenever I hear someone tell me they’ve never had family pictures taken (or at least professional family pictures) I take it on as a challenge! Its almost like I’m subconsciously saying, “Let me show you how fun and awesome this could be!”
For many, family pictures have a negative connotation – they think of how they can feel awkward, they have to get dressed up, they have to smile (probably with a fake smile) for way longer than is comfortable, and then you leave not knowing if all that time and effort was worth it. Well when I put it like that, you’re probably wondering why anyone would subject themselves to that, am I right?
I’ve made it my mission, though, to fight back against each of these objections to make family sessions not only not awkward, but fun! I find beautiful, easily accessible locations where we have beautiful light, provide a style guide and help with prepping for each session, and I’m often showing you the back of my camera so you can see just what you’re getting (and can get excited along with me to see the final result!).
The Hackett family was one of those families who had never had professional pictures done – challenge accepted! I had so much fun with these four capturing their first ever professional pictures. Jen did such an amazing job pulling together their outfits in a short amount of time!
I will be honest. I was a little skeptical. The last time we went out with my husbands little brother to take some pictures (he just likes to take pictures), it ended it tears and frusterated parents. Some of the pictures turned out good, but every time I look at them…. I can see that my kids really aren’t snuggling in and being sweet… they are actually crying and we are begging them to just let us have a few pictures. Needless to say none of them made them on our walls! Laura did SUCH a fantastic job! We laughed, we got goofy. We sang songs and twirled and there was no tears! And now when I look at these pictures I smile. (That is for all of them except the ones where my husband was being overly goofy and I just roll my eyes!) Success! I HIGHLY recommend Laura and her amazing skills! ~The Hackett’s
